Srinagar: Renowned painter and writer Nasreen Mohsin has organised the first-ever printmaking workshop for Kashmir’s artists at the Studio of the Kashmir Art and Artists Foundation (KAAF) in Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar.

The faculty training the students and fresh aspirants has been drawn from prestigious institutions across the country.

Nasreen, along with her husband, prominent playwright, poet, and writer Fayaz Dilbar, founded KAAF a few years ago to foster creativity among the youth.

Besides local artists, poets, broadcasters, civil society activists, and journalists, veteran artists and art connoisseurs from across the country attended the function.

Nasreen Mohsin holds a master’s degree in printmaking from M.S. University, Baroda.

“In hosting this workshop, KAAF Studio affirms its commitment to positioning Srinagar as a site of artistic excellence and collaboration,” Nasreen said at the inaugural ceremony of the five-day workshop, which is expected to attract students and experts from Jammu and Kashmir as well as other parts of the country. She added that by creating opportunities for skill development, mentorship, and exposure to national-level practitioners, “the workshop aspires to nurture a generation of artists who can carry forward the printmaking tradition while expanding its boundaries.”

She further asserted that Kashmir has the potential to become the world’s best destination for artists to learn and teach printmaking.

Euro Art awardee Padma Reddy from Hyderabad, eminent artist and teacher Gokal Dembi from Jammu, A. Rajeshwar Rao from Andhra Pradesh, Jayanti Rabadia from Gujarat, Sabita Lakshman from Hyderabad, and Kashmir’s famous poet Naseem Shifayee were felicitated with Kashmiri shawls and mementoes.

Nasreen and her husband, Fayaz Dilbar, have dedicated part of their house in Harwan to the KAAF Studio, where aspirants will be trained in the art of printmaking.

Writer, researcher, translator, and art enthusiast Tanveer Ajsi conducted the proceedings of the function.
