Jammu, Jul 14: State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has registered a case against a senior government officer posted in Reasi district for allegedly amassing assets by indulging in corrupt and illegal practices.

“A formal case was registered against Assistant Commissioner Development, Reasi, M Y Malik under various sections of prevention of corruption act,” a spokesman of the SVO said today.

He said the case was registered on the basis of reliable input that Malik took advantage of his lucrative postings to amass assets, both movable and immoveable, which were highly disproportionate to his income.

Teams of Vigilance department raided various places in Jammu and Reasi including the house and office of the accused after a formal case was registered against him, the spokesman said.

During the course of searches, it was found that expenditures worth crores was made on various immovable properties raised by him, the spokesman said.

He said all relevant records and suspicious documents which were recovered from various locations were seized.

“Detailed and indepth  scrutiny of the records will be carried out during further course of investigation,” the spokesman said.

Hailing from Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu, the officer’s parent department was Agriculture but was on deputation in Rural Development Department (RDD) and functioned as the Block Development Officer being posted at various places.

He also functioned as Secretary, Jammu Development Authority (JDA) before his current posting as ACD, Reasi, since December 2016, the spokesman said.
