Srinagar: In a landmark step towards strengthening the Digital India mission, the Department of Posts (DoP) has rolled out IT 2.0 – Advanced Postal Technology (APT) across its vast network of 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide.
The initiative, launched under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Union Minister of Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, marks a major stride in modernising postal services with faster, more reliable, and citizen-centric digital solutions.
Built on the success of the earlier IT Modernisation Project 1.0, the APT platform has been indigenously designed and developed by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT). Hosted on the Government of India’s MeghRaj 2.0 cloud and supported by BSNL’s nationwide connectivity, the platform introduces a microservices-based application with next-generation functionalities such as QR code payments, OTP-based delivery, and a 10-digit alphanumeric DIGIPIN to enhance delivery accuracy.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “APT will transform India Post into a world-class public logistics organisation. Led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, this is Aatmanirbhar Bharat in full strength, charting the path for a stronger, self-reliant Digital India.”
The nationwide rollout was completed on August 4, 2025, after successful pilot testing in the Karnataka Postal Circle in May–June. The phased implementation included the Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle between July 15 and August 4. Today, all 23 postal circles — comprising over 1.70 lakh post offices, mail offices, and administrative units — are live on APT.
To ensure smooth adoption, India Post trained more than 4.6 lakh employees through a cascade model of Master Trainers, User Champions, and End-Users under the principle of “Train – Retrain – Refresh.” The system has already proven its scalability, recording over 32 lakh bookings and 37 lakh deliveries in a single day.
With IT 2.0, India Post strengthens its position as a modern, technology-driven service provider while continuing its legacy of trust and unmatched reach. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the rural–urban digital divide, promoting financial inclusion, and delivering world-class services to citizens across the country.
