Awantipora: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Awantipora have secured a conviction in a decade-old rash driving case that claimed the life of a two-year-old child and left two others injured.

Police said the accused, Mohd Waseem Dar, was involved in Case FIR No. 65/2014 registered under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A RPC at Police Station Awantipora. After a prolonged trial, the Court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Awantipora pronounced him guilty.

The accused was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 304-A RPC. He was also awarded three months’ imprisonment and a fine of ₹500 under Section 337 RPC, and three months’ imprisonment with a fine of ₹1,000 under Section 279 RPC. The Court ordered that all the sentences shall run concurrently.

Police said the judgment came after thorough trial proceedings and examination of evidence. SSP Awantipora commended the Investigating Officer for collecting strong evidence and appreciated the prosecution conducted by Assistant Public Prosecutor Mashooq Wani.
