Srinagar: In a significant development aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and easing commuter movement, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sahab sanctioned the construction of an overhead pedestrian pathway at SKIMS Chowk in the Zadibal constituency.

The proposal was put forth by Chief Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq.

The ₹50 lakh project, a long-pending demand of the local population, will greatly benefit commuters, patients, their attendants, and the general public while crossing the bustling intersection that links Nowshera, Bolochipura, and Naribal (Soura side).

Sadiq expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving the proposal and reiterated his commitment to improving civic infrastructure. “This overhead pathway will not only ensure safety and convenience for the public but also mark a significant step in improving urban infrastructure around SKIMS Chowk,” he said.

In a forward-looking initiative, Sadiq is also exploring the feasibility of installing mechanized escalators on both sides of the pathway to further aid movement, especially for the elderly, patients, and people with mobility issues.

In parallel, the beautification of SKIMS Chowk, also proposed by Sadiq under his Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is already underway.

Earlier today, Sadiq visited the site along with the Director SKIMS, Executive Engineer, and other concerned officials to inspect and review the plan. The team deliberated on optimizing the design and layout of the pathway to maximize public benefit and ensure timely completion.
