Srinagar: A man and his daughter were killed while two other family members sustained injuries after a tree fell on their tent in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Wednesday.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours at Kanzalpathri in the upper reaches of Waltango Kund, where gusty winds and heavy rainfall triggered a small landslide, dislodging a tree and boulders that crashed onto a tent sheltering a nomadic Bakerwal family.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in Qazigund, where their condition is stated to be stable.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the incident.

“Saddened by the loss of lives in the tragic incident at Kund in District Kulgam. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the early recovery of the injured,” the Lieutenant Governor said in a statement.
