Srinagar: Having faced neglect and indifference for years together, families of terror victims have finally found something to cheer about. It is not just job letters or other supportive measures that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has decided to provide; it is the very fact that someone from the higher-ups has recognised and appreciated their pain and agony, which gives them the solace that they yearned for for decades.
Official sources revealed that LG Sinha will hand over appointment letters to 250 members of terror victim families on 05th August 2025 at SKICC, Srinagar. These families, from across North, Central, and South Kashmir, are those whose loved ones were killed by various terrorist organizations operating in the Valley.
“Since the rise of terrorism three decades ago, these families have been enduring tremendous hardships, losing their family members in violent acts carried out by organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and other terrorist outfits,” official sources said, adding, these acts of violence have affected families across the entire region, from Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara in North Kashmir to Budgam Ganderbal and Srinagar in Central Kashmir, and extending into the districts of Pulwama, Shopian, and Anantnag in South Kashmir.
The sources further disclosed that many of these victims were civilians and the primary breadwinners for their families. Their deaths not only caused deep emotional trauma but also pushed their families into economic hardship and social isolation. These families were often ostracized, with society failing to acknowledge their pain and ignored by the respective governments, said the sources.
“For decades, these families have been neglected, with their sacrifices going largely unrecognized. However, when the issue was brought into the notice of LG Sinha, a few months back, his office set in motion an action plan for not only the rehabilitation of such families but also to bring their untold and unheard stories to the forefront,” said the souces.
It may be recalled that on On 13 July, the Lieutenant Governor had handed over appointment letters to 40 NoKs of terror victims at Baramulla and 80 families received justice on 28th July at an event in Jammu.
