J&K PCC launches major drive in Srinagar areas to prevent use of SUP

Raids godowns, seizes tonnes of banned polythene

SRINAGAR: In a significant step aimed to put curbs on the use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in the division, teams of J&K Pollution Control Committee (J&KPCC) Kashmir conducted a series of raids on godowns of banned polythenes in Kashmir.

These raids were conducted as part of the activities carried out under “World Environment Day, 2025”, and “Beat Plastic Pollution Globally” themes under the overall guidance and directions of Regional Director JKPCC Kashmir and under the chairmanship of District Officer (DO) Srinagar, PCC Kashmir.

As part of the drive, a designated team headed by D.O Srinagar conducted a targeted raid on a godown located near Tengpora bypass where a total of 115 bags, each weighing 25kgs, were seized from the premises. The cumulative weight of the seized material amounts to 2875 kgs.

Similarly, on receiving specific and credible information, D.O. Sgr, along with his team, conducted a targeted raid on a godown located near Parimpora Srinagar, where a significant quantity of banned polythene weighing about 5380 kgs was seized.

Thus, a massive quantity of 8255 tonnes of illegal polythene was seized before its circulation.

Also, during an Anti-polythene drive, a targeted raid was conducted near Tengpora bypass where 2.5 tonnes of polythene was seized on spot by D.O Sgr along with his team.
