Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers, including a woman, in Kulgam and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that police intercepted an auto load-carrier (JK18D-9075) at a checkpoint near Krishi Vigyan Kendra Pombay Kulgam and recovered 8.15 Kg of poppy straw-like substance from their possession.
Three persons travelling in it — identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Watigam, Kulgam (driver); Raju Singh, son of Gurbaksh Singh resident of Ludhiana, Punjab; and a woman, resident of Moga, Punjab – were arrested while a case under relevant sections of law has been registered for investigation.
Meanwhile, a “notorious” drug peddler was detained in Rajouri district on Sunday, police said.
Mohammad Arif, a resident of Rajouri town, was lodged in a Jammu jail under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act to stop him from illegal activities, a police spokesperson said.
Two more two drug peddlers — Rahul Singh and Sunil Kumar of Bihnah — were arrested along with 13.21 grams of heroin in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district on Sunday.
They were travelling in a car when police intercepted them and seized the narcotic substance from them, the spokesperson said. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the accused.
