Baramulla: The mysterious death of an eight-year-old boy from Lalpora area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir has sparked outrage and grief, with locals staging protests and alleging that the child was murdered.

The boy, who had gone missing on June 12, was found unconscious in a field near his residence later that day. Despite being rushed to JVC Srinagar for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of June 17, police said.

Relatives and local residents gathered in large numbers, demanding justice and a thorough investigation into what they described as a “murder of humanity.”

“This is not just a death; it’s a brutal murder of humanity. We want the culprits to be brought to justice so that such incidents never happen again,” said a family member during the protest.

The boy left home on June 12 and didn’t return. We searched for him until late at night, only to find him unconscious in a nearby field, they added.

Meanwhile, police said that following the incident, they launched an investigation and called in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for a scientific examination of the scene.

A 14-year-old boy has confessed his involvement in the case and has been apprehended under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. Two other individuals related to the accused have also been detained for questioning and the investigation is ongoing with multiple angles being explored, Police said.

Protesters, however, urged authorities to dig deeper. “We are hopeful that the authorities will act and investigate thoroughly. This can’t be brushed aside. We demand strict punishment to whoever is behind this heinous act,” said one of the protesters.

Jammu and Kashmir Police meanwhile assured that the case is being investigated in a professional and impartial manner and that all legal procedures are being followed. (With KNO Inputs)
