Anantnag: The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today paid rich tributes to the former Deputy Chief Minister and prominent political leader, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, on his 43rd death anniversary during a ceremony held at Sarnal in Anantnag.
The event was led by PDP’s Organizational General Secretary and former Parliamentarian, Dr. Mehboob Beg, who in his address described Afzal Beg as one of the towering personalities in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, widely revered as Fakhr-e-Kashmir (Pride of Kashmir).

Dr. Beg highlighted Afzal Beg’s visionary leadership and intellectual brilliance, stating that he played a revolutionary role in transforming the lives of the underprivileged through landmark reforms. “His historic land-to-the-tiller movement, introduced decades ago, is still being studied and adopted in various parts of the world — a testament to his forward-thinking and progressive vision,” Dr. Beg remarked.
