The global theme for this year, ‘Combating Plastic Pollution,’ inspired the district’s awareness campaign, focusing on encouraging eco-friendly alternatives and responsible waste management practices.

DC emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility of government bodies, institutions, and citizens alike. Initiatives such as the plantation drive and the anti-plastic campaign highlight how small, consistent actions can significantly benefit the environment.

Raising awareness and adopting sustainable habits are essential to effectively combat challenges like plastic pollution.

Key initiatives promoted during the event included ‘Plastic Out – Fabric In,’ plastic collection drives at RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centres, and awareness efforts as part of the Swachh Bharat Harit Bharat – Green Campaign. These efforts align with the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 framework, supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and are integrated with the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement.

DC further noted that adopting eco-friendly alternatives and responsible waste management practices are vital steps towards building a cleaner, greener Baramulla. The strong commitment shown by the Municipal Council and its staff serves as an example for the community to follow in creating a healthier future.

The program saw active participation from staff and officers, who committed to reducing plastic use and incorporating sustainable practices in their daily routines.

Meanwhile, in a vibrant celebration of World Environment Day, the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Baramulla conducted a series of eco-conscious events across various zones.

The day witnessed a dynamic array of activities, including Clean-Up Drives, Walkathons, Mini Marathons, and a Cyclothon, all aimed at spreading environmental awareness and promoting sustainable living among youth. Notably, Zone Chandanwari took the lead with a Cyclothon, drawing participation from hundreds of enthusiastic students.

In Zone Uri, a Mini Marathon flagged off from Mini Stadium Uri concluded at GHSS Uri, with over 500 students showcasing their commitment to a cleaner and greener tomorrow.

Adding to the momentum, Zone Pattan and Zone Singpora Kalan organized impactful Clean-Up Drives, engaging a large number of student volunteers in environment-friendly action. Meanwhile, Zones Dangerpora and Boniyar carried out Walkathons, reflecting the collective spirit and responsibility of youth towards protecting nature.

These district-wide events not only marked World Environment Day with enthusiasm but also instilled a strong message of environmental stewardship among students and communities alike.
