Slathia reviews financial concerns of J&K Legislators

SRINAGAR: In order to address the financial concerns of Legislators and ensure that their expenditure and allowances are commensurate with their roles and responsibilities, a meeting of House Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held under the Chairmanship of Surjeet Singh Slathia here at the Assembly Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by the Members of the Committee including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sajad Gani Lone, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah, Arjun Singh Raju and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, besides Additional Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly, Bilal Ahmad  Bhat and other concerned.

The meeting discussed threadbare the modalities on the demand of enhancement of salaries and allowances of the Legislators and the issues concerning pensionary benefits of Ex-legislators.

During the meeting, MLAs from across party lines put forth their suggestions and demanded an increase in their salaries, besides enhanced pensions for the former lawmakers. They also demanded the provision of laptops and other requirements, which have already been approved by the government.

On the occasion, the Chairman of the Committee asked the members to conduct a detailed exercise on the issue in consultation with the Office of Assembly Secretariat focusing on aligning enhancement in the salaries and other incentives in accordance with the market inflation and rising expenses.

The Chairman directed the Committee members and Assembly Secretariat officials to examine the salaries and allowances of legislators in other States to prepare a comprehensive proposal that aligns with market inflation and rising expenses.
