Srinagar, Jul 09: Police on Monday claimed arresting four persons with drugs,  arms and ammunition in Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Continuing its efforts to weed out drug menace from the society, a special team of Police Station Karnah, assisted by the Border Security Force, laid a check-point at Saidpora in the Karnah area of north Kashmir district, a police spokesperson said.

He said during checking, two vehicles were intercepted and about 12 kg of contraband substance was seized from the possession of Rafiq Ahmad and Zakir Hussain — both residents of the Nawagabra area of Karnah.

While carrying out the search of a third vehicle, the spokesperson said.

Two AK-56 rifles, two magazines and some AK-56 rounds were also seized from them, he said.

The spokesperson said that they were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Malik and Shabir Gakhad — both residents of the Hajitarah area of Karnah.

All the four persons have been arrested and case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered, he said, adding that further investigations are underway.
