Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama and Kupwara, and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesperson informed that naka checking near Argecheck (Pulwama), police arrested one Javaid Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Akbar Mir, resident of Pakherpora, after 60 grams of cannabis were recovered from his possession.

At Main Tikker Kupwara, one Danish Ahmad Shiekh, son of Mohammad Yousf Shiekh, resident of Tikker Kupwara was arrested after a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

He said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation.

Meanwhile, in Sopore, police have booked three “chronic narcotics offenders” under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS). The trio — Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rashid Lone of Lorihama Rafiabad; Jameel Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Saripara Rafiabad and Mohammad Altaf Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar of Mumkakh Batpora Sopore –, had been persistently involved in drug peddling despite multiple FIRs and arrests, posing a serious threat to public health and safety, police said.
