HRD ministry sanctions 68 Girls Hostels, 99 KGBV’s for JK

Srinagar:  68 Girls Hostels and 99 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalas (KGBV’s) have been sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir by Ministry of Human Resources Development. This was stated by State Project Director SSA and RMSA, Abdul Rashid War and Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo in a meeting regarding the implementation of various schemes of SSA and RMSA, construction of Girls Hostels and KGBV’s in the State.

A press release issued by the state media centre here said that this will come a long way in strengthening the Education sector in the State. During the meeting the functioning and implementation of these projects was reviewed with the officers from District Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar. Apart from teaching learning process, other matters which were discussed during the meeting include the implementation of biometric attendance system in schools, establishment of Kindergarten schools, functioning of Super 50 Coaching centres, examination related and other matters. DSEK Dr. G.N. Itoo passed few directions regarding the completion of certain goals by the department in time bound manner.

Meanwhile SPD SSA/RMSA Abdul Rashid War directed all the Chief Education Officers to make alternate arrangements on rental basis for the functioning of Girls Hostels till the construction of their buildings is completed. He said among the 68 sanctioned Girls Hostels from MHRD, two have been completed, 18 are nearing completion and the work on rest of the hostels is still on. He further added that 16 KGBV’s have been completed, 19 are under construction and work on 27 KGBV’s is commencing very soon for which the State Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 10 crores and the construction of rest of the buildings shall be completed at the top priority.

Talking about a significant development of School Education Department, SPD SSA/RMSA and DSEK said that under NRBC a total of 5008 out of school children have been provided with basic Education and among them 1728 children have been mainstreamed. They directed all the ZEOs to make sure the preparation and maintaining of Village Education Register in selected schools of their zones to record literacy rate and other education related data so that the Department is able perform better in improving Education scenario of the State.

On the side-lines of the meeting DSEK Dr. G.N. Itoo interacted with the family members of the deceased teacher Sajad Ahmad Lone who had recently died in a tragic road accident. DSEK assured them every possible help in processing the SRO case for the family from the Department.

The meeting was attended by many senior officers of the Department and the representatives from executing agencies of the constructions in school Education Department.
