Srinagar: The President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, emphasized the importance of a free press, a primary requisite for democracy to thrive.

In his statement on International Press Freedom Day, Dr. Farooq highlighted the crucial role of a free press in a functioning democracy. He stated, “A free press is essential for keeping citizens informed and holding those in power accountable. The National Conference’s ‘Naya Kashmir’ manifesto has emphasized the necessity of a free and vibrant press to ensure transparency in governance and to educate the public about their rights.”

He paid tribute to journalists who have lost their lives while fulfilling their duties. Dr. Farooq saluted the courage of the journalistic community and urged them to continue their fight for the rights of the people.
