Theft case solved in Baramulla: Police

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have solved a case of theft in the Mechanical Irrigation Subdivision Pattan, leading to the arrest of the accused and recovery of stolen property.

Sharing details, a police spokesperson informed that on March 15, 2025, Police Station Pattan received a written complaint from the AEE, Mechanical Irrigation Subdivision Pattan, regarding the theft incident at the Lift Irrigation & De-Watering scheme structure at Gund Ibrahim. As per the complaint, unknown thieves had stolen copper coils and cables from the scheme structure after breaking into the premises.

A case was registered at Police Station Pattan, and during investigation police zeroed in on one Nazir Ahmad Dar, son of Sanaullah Dar of Hygam Sopore, police said. Despite multiple raids at various locations, the suspect managed to evade arrest, which only reinforced the police’s suspicion about his involvement. Based on specific intelligence and technical inputs, police finally nabbed the accused from a vehicle (JK05M 0894) while he was driving towards Mirgund.

Accordingly, a checkpoint was laid, where the accused was apprehended tactfully along with the said vehicle. Upon sustained questioning, the accused confessed to the commission of the theft and disclosed the location where the stolen copper coils were concealed. The stolen property has since been recovered and seized. The said vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
