Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his government was in touch with the governments of states where Kashmiris were allegedly being harassed in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

“The J&K government is in touch with the governments of the states where these reports are originating from. I’m also in touch with my counterpart Chief Ministers in these states & have requested they take extra care,” Abdullah posted on X.

He was responding to a post by ruling National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar seeking Abdullah’s intervention after videos of Kashmiris being allegedly harassed emerged on social media.

“Numerous videos showing Kashmiri students nationwide terrified for their safety are being widely shared on social media. Requesting @CM_JnK @OmarAbdullah sb to immediately intervene and speak to his counterparts across the country,” Dar said in his post on X.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir’s Resident Commission in New Delhi has established a helpline for the students of Union territory studying across the country.

“The students hailing from J&K, studying in different states, may contact Jammu and Kashmir Resident Commission, New Delhi in case of any help/assistance on 7303620090, 9682389265, 9419158581, 01124611108, 01124615475, 01124611157, 01126112021 and 01126112022,” a release issued by the UT government reads.

The above-mentioned numbers shall remain operational round-the-clock for any kind of assistance, the Commission said.

Pertinently, Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, along with Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, also met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde today, to express their deepest condolences on the death of Maharashtra civilians in Pahalgam terrorist attack.

The J&K Dy CM also raised the concern regarding safety of Kashmiri people residing in Maharashtra with Eknath Shinde, an official press release informed here.

It said Shinde assured full support from his government, assuring committed towards taking care of J&K residents in Maharashtra. He assured establishment of a dedicated helpline number with a Nodal Officer to assist those in need.

Mufti urges Shah to ensure safety of Kashmiris residing in other parts of country

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure safety of Kashmiris residing in other parts of the country in view of threats issued by right wing elements following the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a post on X, the former chief minister said she spoke with Shah to offer condolences over the Pahalgam killings.

“Spoke with Home Minister @AmitShahji to extend my deepest condolences & also express solidarity with bereaved families of the Pahalgam terror attack. We stand with the nation in this hour of mourning. Also requested him to intervene in the wake of certain elements openly threatening Kashmiri students & traders across various states. Urged him to intervene without delay to ensure their safety & protection wherever such incidents are being reported,” she said.

The Hindu Raksha Dal has reportedly threatened Kashmiri Muslims working or studying in Dehradun to leave the place within one day or face action.

People’s Conference president Sajad Gani Lone also appealed to the Centre to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students.

“There have been many incidents across the country wherein Kashmiri students are being harassed, beaten up, bullied and even asked to vacate their residential premises. I request the union government to please ensure the safety of Kashmiri students,” Lone posted on X.

Terrorists opened fire in a meadow dubbed ‘mini Switzerland’ near the tourist hub of Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people, mostly tourists. It is the worst attack in Kashmir since the Pulwama strike in 2019 when 40 CRPF personnel were killed. (PTI)
