Awareness prog on drug menace held at GHSS, Baramulla

Baramulla:  An awareness programme  on drug menace was organized today at Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, with the objective of sensitizing young minds about the growing abuse of drugs and its devastating consequences on individuals and society.

The event witnessed the participation of several prominent dignitaries and officers who spoke extensively on the pressing issue of drug addiction. The  panel of officers included Station House Officer Baramulla, Rishabh Shukla , Army Officer Major Harris from the Indian Army, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rupali, and Naveed Ajaz Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Rishabh Shukla emphasized the urgent need to tackle drug abuse at its roots, especially among the youth. He urged students to stay vigilant, make informed choices, and work as ambassadors of change within their communities. He highlighted the various measures taken by the police and civil administration to curb the drug trade and rehabilitate victims.

Major Harris, representing the Indian Army, spoke about the psychological and social damages caused by narcotics. He motivated students to engage in constructive activities and strengthen their mental resilience through discipline and healthy lifestyle choices.

Rupali shared real-life case studies and data on how addiction impacts families and communities, particularly in conflict-prone regions. She appealed to the students to speak up against peer pressure and encouraged them to reach out for help when needed.

CEO MC Baramulla, Naveed Ajaz Khan, appreciated the initiative and reiterated the commitment of the Municipal Council towards promoting a drug-free environment in the town. He called for greater synergy between civic bodies, law enforcement, educational institutions, and the public to create lasting awareness and preventive strategies.

The programme also featured interactive sessions where female students of the school actively participated by posing questions, sharing their views, and discussing the challenges faced by the youth in contemporary times. The dignitaries answered their queries and offered guidance on how to handle peer influence, anxiety, and other vulnerabilities that could lead to substance abuse.

The event concluded with a pledge by students and staff to remain vigilant, informed, and united against drug addiction. The school authorities extended gratitude to all the guests for their valuable insights and presence, reinforcing the collective resolve to safeguard the future of our youth.
