Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Baramulla and Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesman said that at a checkpoint established at Forest checkpost NHW Gantamulla Payeen, one Usama bin Ramzan, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone of Fatehgarh, was arrested after 50 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

At Kralhar, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Umar Colony Ushkara Baramulla, was arrested after 30 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him.

Police also said that a vehicle (UK07AQ-3700) moving from Srinagar to Baramulla, met with an accident near Sadderbal. Driver of the vehicle — Amir Khan, son of Mehboob Khan of Bagatpora, Handwara – who was injured in the accident was shifted to a hospital. During search, 2.5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said.

In Srinagar, at Bemina Chowk police arrested Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Sultan Dar of Chandil Wanigam Tangmarg, after “substantial quantity” of cannabis-like substance and cash of Rs 19600 was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
