Srinagar: A non-local labourer drowned in river Jhelum at Patalbagh area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
An official told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as Nami Sahani (45), son of Sarjo Sahani, a resident of Bihar, who was working as a sand labourer in the area.
Soon after the incident, the police team reached the spot and a rescue operation was launched.
The body has been retrieved from the river and shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pampore for medico-legal formalities, officials said.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further investigation started.
Meanwhile, a man died after falling into a well in the Panzgam area of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
An official said Showkat Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Majeed Wani, a resident of Soafshali, Kokernag, was digging a well when he accidentally slipped and fell inside and got injured.
“He was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kokernag, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the official said, adding that police have taken cognizance of the incident
