Srinagar: In a heartfelt tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s Brave hearts, the Group Centre (GC) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Srinagar observed Valour Day on Wednesday with solemnity and pride.

The commemorative event began with floral tributes at the Shaheed Samarak, where Rajesh Kumar, IPS, Additional Director General (ADG), J&K Zone, laid a wreath in honour of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

A Sainik Sammelan was also held on the occasion, during which Pawan Kumar Sharma, Inspector General (IG), Srinagar Sector, felicitated the families of martyrs and presented the Director General’s Disc and Commendation Certificates to personnel for their exceptional service during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024 and the General Parliamentary Elections 2024.

Valour Day, observed every year on April 9, commemorates the unparalleled courage and heroism displayed by four companies of the 2nd Battalion CRPF during the 1965 battle against a full-fledged brigade of the Pakistan Army at Sardar Post and Tonk Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Despite facing overwhelming odds, the CRPF soldiers not only repelled the attack but also inflicted significant losses on the enemy, neutralising 34 Pakistani soldiers and capturing four. In this legendary battle, eight CRPF personnel made the ultimate sacrifice, etching their names in history as symbols of indomitable courage.

During the event, Veer Nari Dilshada Begum, wife of Shaheed Constable/GD Rafiq Ahmed Khan of 166 Battalion, was honoured with a shawl and bouquet in recognition of her husband’s sacrifice.

Adding a spirit of camaraderie to the occasion, a volleyball match was organised between GC CRPF Srinagar and Valley QAT. The winning team was felicitated by Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), GC CRPF Srinagar.

The day-long event was attended by senior officers, CRPF personnel, and their families residing within the campus, reflecting the enduring spirit of the force and their collective tribute to the legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
