Baramulla: In a moment of pride for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, 21-year-old Suhail Hameed Bhat, a fiery fast bowler and dynamic all-rounder from Sheeri, Baramulla, has been selected for the prestigious ASCL (State League), a tournament modeled after the high-intensity Indian Premier League (IPL).

Growing up in the picturesque yet cricket-crazy village of Sheeri, Suhail’s love for the game began with tape-ball matches on rugged fields. Inspired by legends like Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and MS Dhoni, he honed his skills through relentless training, often bowling for hours in challenging conditions. His ability to swing the ball at sharp pace and contribute with the bat soon caught the attention of local coaches.

A Dream Call-Up

Suhail’s selection for the ASCL is a testament to his hard work and determination. Known for his raw pace, sharp bouncers, and handy lower-order batting, he has drawn comparisons to a young Irfan Pathan in his early days. His performances in local tournaments and district cricket paved the way for this big break.

Family & Valley’s Support

Behind every rising athlete is a strong support system, and Suhail’s parents have been his pillars.

“This is just the beginning,” his father, Abdul Hamid, said with pride. “We always believed in him, and now the world will see his talent.”

The entire Sheeri village and north Kashmir are buzzing with excitement, hoping Suhail becomes the next big name from the region after Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik.

With the ASCL providing a platform akin to the IPL, Suhail has a golden opportunity to showcase his talent on a bigger stage. Cricket experts believe that if he excels here, doors to domestic cricket, IPL scouts, and even ICC-recognized tournaments could open.

“Suhail has the aggression and skill to go far. He reminds me of my early days,” said local coach Mohammad Shafi.

J&K is a hub of untapped talent, and Suhail’s rise is truly inspiring!

“Not only his family but the whole valley is behind you, Suhail! Blaze through the ASCL, and may your journey inspire countless kids in Kashmir to dream big. Who knows? Soon, we might see you sharing the field with the likes of Dhoni, Hardik, or Bumrah!” wrote his maternal uncle, Manzoor Sheeri.
