Srinagar, July 4: Family of Prabjhot Kaur, a Sikh lady whose body was found hanging at her in-laws home past week at Mehjoornagar area, Wednesday staged protest here accusing her in-laws for ‘murdering’ her in cold blood.

Holding banners and placards in their hands which read “we want justice and punish  killers” dozens of family members, relatives and neighbors of the deceased gathered at Lal Chowk and held protest demanding arrest of culprits.

The protesters including some females who could be seen beating their chest amidst crying alleged that the deceased lady was murdered by her in-laws for not fulfilling their dowry demand.

“It has been one week since her body was found, however the police has not been able to make any arrest so far, no investigation was carried into the matter. We went to police station many a times seeking copy of forensic report which was denied by police,” said paternal uncle of the deceased.

Prabjhot, mother of one child married six years back, was found hanging at her room in Mehjoor Nagar Thursday last.

He asserted that the deceased was subjected to immense mental and physical torture by her in-laws including husband and sister in-laws as she could not fulfill her dowry demand being poor.

The protesters appealed Governor, N.N Vohra, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir and other higher-ups in Governor Administration to look into the issue.

“We want justice, our protest against the cold-blooded murder of our daughter Prabjhot will continue till all the culprits involved in the crime are brought to justice. We cannot see killers to roam freely,” said Prabjhot’s uncle.
