Sopore July 4: Street Vendors in North Kashmir’s Sopore town on Wednesday were allotted a permanent business space which they have named as “Bismillah Market”.

According to the vendors, a low key function was held at old Government Bus Stand near Main Chowk, Sopore where the Tehsil level officers officially granted the permission to the vendors for setting up their carts in the area.

“It was a long pending demand of street vendors to set up their carts at a feasible site so that we can run our business smoothly, besides the traffic movement should not get disrupted due to the presence of carts on the roadside,” said Ali Mohammad, a street vendor.

Local administrative officials said that by providing separate business space to these vendors, the problem of traffic jams will get solved.

Meanwhile, the vendors have sought assurance from the authorities to ensure that they would not be forcefully evicted again in future from the old bus stand.

“On the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, almost 150 street vendors were accommodated at two places, old government bus stand and Shallapora area.  The government bus stand has been shifted to Tulibal area of Soporetown,” Syed Abdul Mateeen Executive officer Municipality Office Sopore told Kashmir Images.

“These vendors were responsible for creating huge traffic jams in the town,” added Mateen.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Aashiq Hussain, Tehsildar Sopore Abrar Ahmed, Naib Tehsildar, SDPO Sopore Mashkoor Ahmed Zargar, SHO Sopore Mudasir Ahmed Geelani, members of Traders Federation Sopore, Civil Society Sopore, besides large gathering of people were present at the inaugural ceremony of ”Bismillah Market”.
