Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kupwara and Anantnag districts, and seized contraband substances from their possession, an official handout informed Wednesday.

It said in Srinagar, one Majid Shafi Najar alias Choota Chaama, son of Mohammad Shafi Najar of Chan Mohalla Allochibagh, was arrested at Allochibagh Bund with “substantial quantity” of contraband substances.

In Kupwara, at FCI Bumhama two individuals Aijaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Khazir Mohammad Ganie of Khumriyal, and Hakim Din Khatana, son of Taj Din Khatana of Gagal Katiyawali, were arrested after 1220 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from their possession.

In Aishmuqam, two drug peddlers were arrested and 7 Kgs of cannabis husk was seized from their possession. They were identified as Owais Mansoor Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Abdul Razaq Bhat, both residents of Charakpora Hapatnard.

Regarding the incidents, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
