Sopore: Residents of Khushal Colony in Sopore staged a protest Monday, blocking the town’s bypass bridge to demand clean drinking water, which they say has been unavailable for four months.

“We are forced to block the highway because we have been deprived of drinking water for months,” said one female protester. Another resident criticized authorities for engaging with them only during election campaigns.

“The administration sympathizes with us when they need votes, but once elections are over, they never come to see us,” the protester said.

Demonstrators also raised concerns over the quality of water supplied to the area. “The little water we get is dirty and unhealthy. We appeal for justice,” another woman said.

SHO Tarzoo Sajad Ahmad arrived at the scene and assured the protesters that the issue would be taken up with the Jal Shakti Department for resolution.

However, the concerned department has yet to release any statement regarding the water crisis in Khushal Colony.
