Bandipora, Jul 01: Four members of a family were among the five persons who died while three others suffered injuries in a road accident in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday.

An official said a passenger van carrying passengers from Bandipora to border town of Gurez fell into a deep gorge near Tragbal on Bandipora-Gurez road.

He said five persons, including four members of a family, traveling in the ill-fated vehicle (JK01F-9574) died on the spot while three others were injured, local GNS news agency reported.

The official said that the injured were immediately shifted to a hospital where the condition of one of them is stated to be critical.

The bodies were taken to the hospital for medico-legal formalities, he said.

The deceased were identified as Sajad Ahmad Lone (45), son of Abdul Salaam; his wife Rubeena Begum, son Moin Sajad and daughter Arjumand Sajad, residents of Kangan Ganderbal, and the driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh, son of Gulaab Sheikh of Sardab Gurez.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations taken up,” said the official.
