Gul Mustafa Dev appointed Chairman of Selection Committee for Ski and Snowboard India

Srinagar: The Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) has announced that Gul Mustafa Dev, the first Olympian from Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Selection Committee by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Ad-Hoc Committee for Ski and Snowboard India.

Gul Mustafa Dev, who represented India in Alpine Skiing at the 1988 Winter Olympics, is an executive member of WGAJK and a prominent figure in Indian winter sports. As Chairman, he will lead a three-member committee responsible for identifying and selecting athletes for international Alpine Skiing events. The committee also includes Ludar Chand Thakur from Himachal Pradesh and Preeti Dimri from Uttarakhand.

In an official communication from the Office of the Chairman of the IOA Ad-Hoc Committee for Ski and Snowboard India, the appointment was confirmed, stating:

“We are pleased to confirm the panel of the three-member Selection Committee for the IOA Ad-Hoc Committee Ski and Snowboard India. Your role will be to identify and select athletes for international Alpine Skiing events. Your expertise and experience in the field are highly valued, and we believe that your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring a fair and comprehensive selection process.”

Rauf Tramboo, President of WGAJK, expressed pride and appreciation for the appointment, calling it a significant moment for winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is indeed a proud moment for all of us at WGAJK and winter sports enthusiasts in Jammu and Kashmir that Gul Mustafa Dev, our first Olympian, has been entrusted with this great responsibility. We are confident that his vast experience and expertise will bring tangible results in elevating the status of winter sports in the country. We also extend our gratitude to the IOA Ad-Hoc Committee for placing their trust in him.”

Gul Mustafa Dev’s appointment is expected to further boost winter sports in India, particularly in the Himalayan region, which has been a hub for skiing and snowboarding talent.
