SRINAGAR: The Department of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) on Friday sealed well-known curative quackery, alleged to be engaging in unethical medical practices at Syedpora, Harwan area of Srinagar.

The seizure followed the day after the Department of Pediatrics’ Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar requested the Principal to take firm action against the unqualified individuals engaging in unethical medical practices that endanger patients’ lives.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Srinagar, Dr. Tahir Sajad, confirmed the seizure of the popular curative quackery in Harwan area of Srinagar, where people primarily with jaundice, visit in droves to seek treatment.

“Following an official communication from HoD Pediatrics to the Principal GMC Srinagar requesting prompt action against the quackery for engaging in unethical medical procedures, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir closed the curative quackery in Harwan,” CMO Srinagar informed ‘Kashmir Images’.

Besides sealing the quackery, CMO Srinagar claimed that samples of treatment-related medicines have also been sent for laboratory analysis to see whether or not they are harmful to the health of people receiving care there.

“If the accusations made against the quackery are proven to be true, the proprietor shall be liable for legal action. Since samples have been collected for laboratory analysis, any decision in this regard will be made upon receipt of the final report,” CMO added.

It may be in place to mention that the Head of the Department of Pediatrics had urged the Principal GMC Srinagar to take necessary actions to close down the quackery for risking the lives of hundreds of naïve individuals who visit there seeking treatment.

It has been alleged that there have been multiple reports of acute liver failure in patients who were previously discharged from hospitals.

“After leaving the hospital, they went to Dara Harwan in search of miracle cures, where they were given unproven medical treatments and complementary therapies that ultimately resulted in their admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) with acute liver failure and, regrettably, their death,” the formal communiqué to the GMC Principal from HoD Pediatrics had reportedly pointed out.
