Srinagar, Jan 19: A shawl seller from Kashmir was allegedly thrashed and looted by some people in Kapurthala area in Punjab.
The victim identified as Mohammad Shafi Khoja came under attack by at least three persons who not only thrashed the shawl seller but also ran away with his items and other belongings, reports said.
The victim was later on taken to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Reacting to the dastardly act, the Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association said it has taken up the matter with the Punjab government asking them to nab the assailants.
“We have spoken to Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, who assured us that strict instructions have been issued to the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav,” JKSA said in a statement.
“He further stated that the culprits will face the consequences they deserve,” the Association said, adding, “the safety and security of Kashmiri students and shawl sellers remain our utmost priority”.
