Bandipora: A dispute over part of a graveyard being turned into an Eidgah in Aloosa village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district escalated into a brawl, resulting in injuries to at least five individuals last evening.

According to locals, a group had constructed a pulpit to convert some space of the graveyard into an Eidgah.

Another group opposed to the idea, filed a complaint with Tehsildar Aloosa, to thwart the move.

The locals said that after taking cognizance, the Tehsildar directed the resisting party to go to the police station and instructed the police officer of Aloosa to look into the matter.

However, the situation turned ugly when, on Friday night, one of the groups tried to paint the pulpit, which was opposed by the other group.

Even as the police was called in to intervene, however even they could not prevent a physical brawl between the two sides, with warring parties using stones and sticks against each-other, at least five persons were injured.

The police confirmed the incident, and injuries to five individuals, saying that a case has been filed and two persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
