Srinagar: Police on Friday shared details about the arrest of seven drug peddlers across Kashmir.
According to an official handout, in Anantnag, at Halmulla Sangam, a vehicle (JK01M-4136) with three persons on board was intercepted. During search, 21 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from it following which Javid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh of Kuchmulla Tral; Mohammad Altaf Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh of Kanihama Nowgam Srinagar; and Mohammad Haroon Parry, son of Mohammad Sadiq Parry of Charsoo Awantipora, were arrested and vehicle seized.
A truck (JK01AS-5073) belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company Srinagar, was stopped for inspection at Jablipora NHW near Fruit Mandi and 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from it following which its driver Javaid Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Yousuf Shah and the conductor Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Ali Mohammad Shah, both residents of Bahoo, Awantipora were arrested. Vehicle was also seized.
In Sopore, at Naidhal Crossing Crossing, one Shakir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Majoo Sheikh, resident of Noorbagh Baramulla was arrested after 32.3 grams of cannabis-like substance and 64 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus were recovered from his possession.
At Herpora Handwara, one Farooq Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Sultan Dar alias Jungli, resident of Lachipora Handwara, was arrested and eight grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
