BANDIPORA, JUNE 30: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad Sanai today along with the team of officers visited Sodnara Gauge, Hajin Bund, Sumbal, Asham and other villages residing on the banks of River Jehlum to take stock of the situation arisen after inclement weather in the valley.

The DDC inspected various ongoing flood protection works and directed concerned engineers to speed up the construction of these protection works. He also asked concerned officers to keep a sufficient number of sandbags available to combat the increased water flow. He also inspected community health centre Sumbal to review the facilities there.

During the visit, various public deputation met the DDC and requested for raising the level of protection bunds at various vulnerable spots. He assured the people that they can avail the services of District Administration round the clock and can contact officers on Control Room Numbers which have already been circulated.

Earlier, the DDC convened a meeting of all concerned with regard to disaster management in the district and asked officers, supervisory and field staff to be fully prepared in view of present weather vagaries.

On the occasion, the DDC directed officers to keep an inventory of resources available with a broader spectrum, covering information regarding vulnerable/ low lying areas, evacuation plan, availability of sandbags, machinery equipments like ambulances, JCBs, dewatering pumps, water tankers, besides NGOs working for disaster management, location of control rooms, list of village level committees and identification for location of Helipads.

SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, ACR Bandipora Hameeda Akhter besides ACD, CMO and Tehsildars were present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the DDC held a separate meeting with the representatives of fishermen of various villages residing on the banks of Wular Lake. During the meeting, the DDC sought the cooperation from the people, especially fishermen and asked them to keep their boats available in case of any emergency of flood situation.
