Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, has expressed strong reservations over the acquisition of 5000 kanals of land for the establishment of a new National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus in Pulwama, saying the project will face strong resistance without ensuring fair compensation and job guarantees for locals.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, in a communiqué, has formed a team to expedite revenue paperwork for transferring 4834 kanals and 19 marlas of state land for the NIT campus in south Kashmir.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Para wrote: “Pulwama welcomes the establishment of an NIT, but seizing 5000 kanals of land is unacceptable. Without fair compensation and guaranteed jobs for locals, this project will face strong resistance.”

Another PDP leader Iltija Mufti while criticizing the government, said if education was such a priority why did they introduce lopsided reservation earlier.

“GOIs project to continue grabbing land in Kashmir under the ruse of ‘development’ in J&K continues unabated. Pray tell what’s the need to seize 5000 kanals of prime agricultural land in Pulwama to establish a NIT? If education was such a priority why did they introduce lopsided reservation in the first place?” Iltija in a post on X said.
