Srinagar: An army personnel died of cardiac arrest during a search operation in the upper areas of Srinagar on Friday, officials said.

The search operation was going on in the forest area of Harwan here in the aftermath of an encounter in the nearby Dachigam on Tuesday in which Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Junaid Ahmed Bhat was killed.

While the security forces were conducting searches for terrorists in Faqeer Gujree, Dara, in the Harwan area of the city this morning, an army jawan died due to cardiac arrest, the officials said.

They identified the deceased as Jasvinder Singh of the Army’s 34 Assam Rifles.

Since the encounter on Tuesday, security forces have launched search operations in the vast forest area to trace terrorists.

In a similar incident, a paramilitary CRPF man died of alleged cardiac arrest during patrol duty late last night at Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, news agency NVI quoted official sources as saying today.

They said constable Azad Ahmad Najar of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) B/96 Battalion passed away while on camp patrolling duty in the Mattan area.

The incident occurred during his night shift, between 11:00 PM and 1:00 AM, when he suddenly collapsed due to what is suspected to be a cardiac arrest.

As per reports, at approximately 12:35 AM, Najar developed sudden syncope (loss of consciousness). His fellow personnel on duty responded promptly and rushed him to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mattan for medical attention. However, upon arrival, the attending doctors declared him dead.

The initial medical examination conducted by the attending doctor suggests cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death. However, the exact cause will only be confirmed following the post-mortem examination.
