Make ITMS cameras functional on priority: Div Com Kashmir to SSCL

SRINAGAR: Make all ITMS cameras installed at different junctions across the city functional on a priority basis for traffic management and to curb violation of traffic rules and regulations, directed Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri to the officers of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) today.

The Div Com issued these directions in a meeting convened here regarding Traffic Management in the City.

Among others, the meeting was attended by IGP Traffic J&K, CEO SSCL/ Commissioner SMC, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, VC SDA, Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Dept Central Kashmir, Chief Engineer, Project BEACON (through VC), SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SE, R&B, North/South Circle Srinagar, RTO Kashmir, PD NHAI Srinagar, GM Planning SSCL and GM SRTC.

The meeting deliberated on the status of the functioning of ITMS in Srinagar City, Safety Audit of Roads, Identification of Black spots, Parking Facilities, Felling down of Semi-Dry Chinar trees at BB Cantt Road Srinagar and BK Pora besides other issues.

Addressing the meeting, Div Com enjoined officers of SSCL to submit a timeline for making ITMS cameras functional at every junction besides asking the CEO, SSCL and SSP Traffic Srinagar for the operation of Control Rooms of ICCC and Traffic Police for online monitoring.

Underlining the utmost importance of functional cameras across the City to avoid violation of traffic rules and for security purposes, Div Com pressed officers to address all impediments urgently.

Further, Div Com directed CEO SSCL to assign duty to a team of officers to monitor the operation of cameras regularly.

He asked the concerned to cover all the accidents-prone spots under ITMS to avoid accidents by monitoring the speed of vehicles and to take action under the law for violations.

In order to streamline the traffic movement from Parimpora to Narbal, Div Com directed BRO to barricade unnecessary cuts of the median of the highway.

He also directed to take action against heavy vehicle transporters who park their vehicles alongside the Bypass Road creating hurdles in traffic movement.

Regarding the felling of Chinar trees at BB Cantt Road, Div Com asked DC Srinagar to expedite the process of permission for cutting two semi-dry chinars at the location.
