7 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.

Sharing details, he said three persons — Mohsin Manzoor Gojree, son of Manzoor Ahmad Gojree of Noorbagh Sopore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam ud Din Najar of Nowpora Kalan Sopore; and Ali Mohammad Lara, son of Mohammad Amin Lara, of New Colony Sopore – were arrested near Fruit Mandi Sopore after 20 grams of contraband brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession.

In Kupwara, at T-Chowk Kuligam, one Aijaz Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan of Dudi Dapal, at present Gagal Lolab, was arrested after 72 grams of cannabis-like substance wrapped in corn husk was recovered from his possession.

In Baramulla, at a checkpoint established at Bandi Crossing, intercepted a person identified as Faizal Ahmad Khan, son of Reyaz Ahmad of Paranpeelan. During the search, 30 grams of cannabis and 1.5 Kgs of cannabis powder like substances were recovered from his possession.

At Veerwan Baramulla, one Farooq Ahmad Lone, son of Ali Mohammad Heewan Sheeri, was arrested and 50 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.

At Theeru, Ganderbal, one Mohammad Aarif Khan, son of Noor Mohammad Khan of Theeru, was arrested and 30 grams of cannabis and 4.5 Kgs of Bangpatri (poppy leaves) was recovered from his possession.

During investigation, he disclosed that he had kept more contraband substances at the residential house of another accused at Takiebal Ganderbal. Police subsequently raided the said residential house in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class and 11 kgs of contraband substance Bangpatri was seized on the spot

All accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations where cases have been registered for investigation.
