GMC Srinagar hosts CME programme on Antibiotic Stewardship

SRINAGAR: The Department of Anaesthesiology, Critical Care, Pain, and Palliative Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on Antibiotic Stewardship.

The CME, organized under the leadership of Professor Dr. Hina Bashir, Head of the Department, aimed to discuss strategies for effective antibiotic use, bringing together distinguished faculty from across the valley.

GMC Srinagar also inaugurated its Hospital Infection Control Committee, aimed at reducing and managing hospital-acquired infections within GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals.

The committee comprises key members, including the Principal of GMC Srinagar, Heads of Departments of Microbiology, Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Pharmacology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery, Medicine, Orthopaedics, and the Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital.

Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar, stressed the importance of judicious antibiotic use, stating that GMC Srinagar has consistently worked to prevent antibiotic resistance in the region.

Prof. Dr. Hina Bashir underscored the urgency of addressing antibiotic misuse, warning of the life-threatening risks posed by resistant bacterial infections.

The CME witnessed active participation from several Heads of Departments, including Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Jan, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Prof. Samina Farhat Hakak, Prof. Asif Nazir, Prof. Dr. Syed Masuma Rizvi and other delegates from hospitals across the valley. Tahleela Asmat Chief Accounts Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat Administrative Officer also attended the CME.
