Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers and also confiscated a cab belonging to a drug peddler, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.

It said in Soura area of Srinagar,  police intercepted a vehicle (PB53AM-7939) driven by one Surinder Pal Saini, son of Joginder Pal Saini, resident of Chele Chak, District Gurdaspur, Tehsil Pathankot, Punjab, and recovered 4.92 grams of heroin and cash of ₹ 6,930 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics) from his possession.

Police said Singh was arrested and preliminary investigation reveals that he is a chronic drug peddler who has been actively involved in selling drugs among the youth of Srinagar.

In Rajbagh area, police intercepted a vehicle (JK01AV-8300) with two persons on board. Identified as Riyaz Ahmad Chana, son of Late Abdul Aziz of Haba Kadal, and Hamza Khan, son of Asif Khan, resident of Rawalpora, both persons were arrested after 4 grams of brown sugar and a digital weighing machine was recovered from their possession. The vehicle has also been seized.

In Baramulla, at Gingal Bridge in Uri, one Syed Hassan Shah, son of Syed Mehboob of Gingal was arrested and 6.5 kgs of cannabis powder recovered from his possession.

One Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Majid of Binner, was arrested at Janbazpora Baramulla after 100 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

At Forest Check Post Gantamulla Baramulla, Mohammad Amin Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool of Kitchama was arrested and 30 grams of cannabis recovered from his possession.

In Anantnag district, near the ATM Crossing in Sallar, one Fareed Ahmad Shah, son of Dilawar Shah of Sheikhpora, Sallar, was arrested and 3.2 kgs of cannabis powder concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession.

Around 5.7 kgs of cannabis husk was recovered from Mehraj Din Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool of Sheikh Mohalla, Ashmuqam, following which he was arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigation.

Meanwhile, Tavera cab (JK01V-3388) valued at ₹8.90 lakhs, belonging to a drug peddler identified as Javed Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir of Dardsun Kralpora, Kupwara,was confiscated under Section 68(f)(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985, police said.
