‘Men’s Inter-College Cricket Tournament’: KU’s PG team beat GCOPE Gbl clinching trophy in finals

Srinagar: The Men’s Inter-College Cricket Tournament, organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), University of Kashmir (KU), concluded here Monday at the varsity’s Ground ‘A’.

A key highlight in the university’s annual sports calendar, over 46 affiliated colleges, including the varsity’s Post Graduate (PG) team participated in the tournament.

The competition, which began in October, featured intense matches that captivated the audience throughout the tournament.

The final match took place between the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE), Ganderbal and the varsity’s Post Graduate (PG) team. Winning the toss, the PG team elected to bat first, setting a competitive score of 152/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Zarraq Rais contributed a solid 32 runs, with Suhail Hassan adding 27 runs to the scoreboard. Bilal Ahmad from GCOPE, Ganderbal, shone in the bowling department, taking 3 wickets.

In response, GCOPE, Ganderbal, scored 149/9 in 20 overs, narrowly missing the target by just 3 runs. Idrees and Waseem were notable contributors with 28 and 23 runs, respectively.

For the PG team, Saliha Yousuf and Saqib Reshi took 3 wickets each, helping secure a thrilling victory. Saliha of the PG team was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional bowling, which dismantled the top-order line-up of GCOPE, Ganderbal.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Dean of the School of Arts, Languages, and Literature, Prof Salahuddin Tak, congratulated both the teams for reaching the finals. He appreciated the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports for engaging students in sports activities and channelling their energy positively.

Director, DPES, Prof Tariq Ahmad Chisti, provided an overview of the tournament and outlined upcoming events planned by the directorate.

The dignitaries presented individual medals and trophies to the winners bringing the action-packed tournament to an end.

The tournament was held under the supervision of cricket coaches Sakeena Akhter and Amjad Qadir, both from the directorate.
