Srinagar: National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq said on Monday that talks are underway with the Government of India to hand over law and order to the elected government of Jammu & Kashmir.

“We want an elected government to handle law and order issues so that individuals involved in lesser crimes could be released. Talks in this regard are underway with the Government of India; it will take some time but we are optimistic,” Sadiq said.

He said they are also hopeful that statehood to J&K will be restored in the coming months so that issues pertaining to people are resolved without impediments.

“I want to congratulate the people of J&K for the mandate they gave to the National Conference (NC). Out of 12 guarantees and 26 promises, the government fulfilled four major promises which include a resolution on special status in the J&K Legislative Assembly, a resolution on statehood in the cabinet meeting, a reversal of academic session from March to November, and age relaxation in job matters,” he said.

He also said though the way ahead is tough, in the next five years we will ensure all promises made with the people are fulfilled.

“The issues like increase in ration, kerosene, and gas quota will be addressed in coming times. We assure people that this government is yours, and all promises will be fulfilled, but keep patience,” he added.

He continued that the Omar Abdullah-led government aimed to provide relief to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. “There are many plans under consideration, and people will be made aware of them in coming times. Our main focus is on tourism, infrastructure, trade, economy and horticulture. These sectors will be addressed for the welfare and betterment of J&K and its people,” he added.
