Srinagar: A massive fire broke out in a private school in the Kursoo Rajbagh area of Srinagar on Thursday, causing extensive damage to the property. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident, officials said.

While the students were preparing for the Children’s Day celebrations this afternoon, flames began to rage from the second floor of the Muslim Public High School in Kursoo Rajbagh locality, resulting in complete chaos and confusion in the campus.

Since the majority of the students reside nearby, many parents rushed to save their children.

Before the firefighting operation began, the children were safely evacuated, according to Aqib Hussain Mir, Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Service (F&ES) department.

The fire, according to the official, originated on the second floor of the school building and quickly spread to the attic area, resulting in damage to the property.

“To bring the fire under control, we had to call in fire tenders from other stations as well, and it took our men an hour to put out the flames. Around 1:33 pm, the operation was completed,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Masood visited Muslim Public High School Rajbagh today following a severe fire incident that caused extensive damage to the school building.

The Minister was accompanied by a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lal Chowk, Sheikh Ahsan Pardesi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Principal of Muslim Public High School, and officers from the Fire & Emergency Services Department, Police and other concerned agencies.

An official spokesman said that during her visit, the Minister inspected the affected areas, assessed the damage and spoke with school authorities and local officials about immediate needs and plans for recovery.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the school’s reconstruction efforts and ensuring that students can resume their education as soon as possible.

The Minister also commended the prompt response of Fire & Emergency Services, whose efforts helped to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. She assured the school administration of Department’s assistance in restoring educational facilities and addressing safety concerns to prevent future incidents.
