3 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

In village Nipora  Sadoora (Kulgam) police arrested Mohammad Maroof, son of Hassin Din, resident of Reasi, and Jaswant Raj, son of Tej Ram, also a resident of Reasi, after 2.8 kgs of poppy straw and ₹1,00,160 in cash were recovered from them. The vehicle (JK14-4483) they were travelling in was also seized, police said.

In Anantnag, one Mohammad Altaf Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Gonda, Rajouri, present residing in Sirhama, was arrested after five kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
