A woman, who was injured in a grenade attack at a popular flea market here earlier this month, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday leaving her family devastated, officials said. It may be recalled that the grenade attack here had left 12 persons injured. One among the injured, 45-year-old woman succumbed to injuries at the SMHS hospital this morning. She was identified as Abida, a resident of Naidkhai area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir. Though Police has already arrested three terror associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit, who were involved in the grenade attack, point is that a family has been devastated.

Though political leaders from Dr Farooq Abdullah to Sajad Lone and CM Omar Abdullah to JKAP president Altaf Bukhari have condemned the death, question is, who is going to take care of the children the dead woman left behind. She had gone to the flea market to buy winter clothing for her children. She would have never thought that it was her last outing. But it was.

Terrorists, who indulge in these kinds of attacks have no sense of humanity. They do so to score points over their rivals, in this case the state administration. They don’t care who dies or who survives. They just attack because Kashmiri lives don’t matter to them. They have their masters dictating from across the border.

Jammu and Kashmir has suffered a lot from early nineties. The violence has taken its toll. Thousands have been killed and injured in terror attacks. People are languishing in jails. There are thousands who don’t get jobs because they don’t get Police clarification. There are thousands who don’t get passports because there are adverse Police reports. An entire generation of Kashmiris has been impacted by violent politics.

Had it been confined to individuals, it wasn’t a big problem. But fact of the matter is that families are suffering, even distant families are being victimised. Though several political parties, including ruling National Conference, JK Peoples Conference and JK Peoples Democratic Party have been raising the issue of Police verifications, the Home Department being under direct control of Union Government, there are doubts whether Kashmiri people will get any relief or not.

Having said that, the TRC grenade attack indicates that those who believe in the violent politics have no regard for the lives of Kashmiris. They just want to keep the pot boiling at whatever cost. Their only aim is to disturb peace and for that they can kill as many Kashmiris as they want. It is therefore responsibility of Kashmiri people to tell them that enough is enough. Kashmiris want to live, live a dignified and respectable life. They don’t want grenades on streets killing Abida’s. They want to live in peace. They want to breathe in peace. They don’t want any more coffins.
