Srinagar: Tennis enthusiasts in Srinagar are in for an electrifying final at the 2024 Srinagar Open Tennis Championship, as Dilbagh Singh prepares to face defending champion Inayat Jehangir.
Both players secured their spots in the final by winning their respective semifinal matches in straight sets on Sunday.
Singh, who has delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, overcame last year’s runner-up, Haider Hussain, with a 7-5, 6-2 victory. The two players were neck and neck in the first set, but Singh found his rhythm in the second set, clinching his place in the final in just under two hours.
Meanwhile, Jehangir, the reigning champion, demonstrated his prowess once again by defeating Rouf Ahmad 6-2, 6-2. Though the scoreline may suggest an easy win, Ahmad’s performance kept Jehangir on his toes, as the defending champion had to dig deep to fend off Ahmad’s challenge.
The singles event will culminate with the highly anticipated final showdown between Singh and Jehangir, promising a thrilling display of talent and determination. Following the singles competition, a doubles tournament is set to begin next weekend, extending the excitement for local tennis fans.
The Srinagar Open, hosted by the District Lawn Tennis Association in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, is being held at the Gindun Tennis Courts in Rajbagh. This annual tournament continues to showcase and nurture talent in the region, drawing in players and supporters alike.
