Srinagar: Police on Tuesday attached the property of a man, who they said is a ‘known drug trafficker’ in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, said police.

Police identified the man as Mohammad Ashraf Dar, son of Jalal-ud-Din, resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara, and said that he has a history of offenses under the NDPS Act for “smuggling of substances like, Codeine Phosphate, cannabis, and Spasmo Proxyvon Plus”.

Quoting police spokesperson, news agency GNS reported that Ashraf’s most recent offense was on April 4, 2021, when a major drug haul was seized from him, which included 70 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 34.7 kg of cannabis powder, and 4,320 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus.

According to the police spokesman, further investigations revealed that his two sons, Inayat Ahmad Dar and Sahil Ahmad Dar, were also arrested in 2024 on drug-related charges.

An investigation revealed that his three-storey residence in Tulkhan, valued at around 1.2 crores, was acquired through proceeds from his illicit drug activities, police said. “Consequently, Anantnag Police, via Police Station Bijbehara, enforced Section 68(1) of the NDPS Act to attach the property, preventing its sale or alteration,” said police.
