Srinagar: In a dedicated effort to foster a culture of integrity and transparency, the Literary Club of Islamia College of Science and Commerce organized an awareness campaign during Vigilance Week, centered on the theme “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity.”

Professor (Dr.) Tehmeena Yousuf, Principal of Islamia College, opened the event with a welcome address, underscoring the critical importance of vigilance awareness in curbing corruption, a practice she described as a major impediment to societal development. “Corruption hampers growth at every level, and raising awareness is the first step toward change,” she remarked.

In his keynote address, Prof. Abdul Majid, Head of the Department of English, highlighted the role of quality education in bridging divides and building an inclusive society rooted in India’s diverse cultural heritage. He spoke passionately about the need for education that transcends religious, ethnic, linguistic, and regional boundaries.

Prof. Rehana Bhat, Convenor of the Literary Club, emphasized the value of ethics in nation-building, while Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat, a social and environmental activist, discussed the importance of honest leadership as the bedrock of a strong and resilient nation.

A significant highlight of the event was a talk by Sheikh Ayaz, SSP of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, who provided an in-depth view of corruption’s origins and varied manifestations. He explained the Bureau’s role in combating corruption and called on citizens to adopt a proactive stance against it, stating, “Eradication of corruption requires an active commitment from every individual in society.”

Badrul Dujja also spoke on the pivotal role of family in instilling ethical values, asserting that families have a responsibility to guide members toward integrity from a young age. Adding a creative touch to the program, Rayees Wathori, Director of Tulkul Arts and Media Collective, and his team performed a skit highlighting the challenges of corruption within official processes and the impact of unethical practices on beneficiaries.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Professor Mir Mohammad Haneef, followed by a collective pledge by all attendees to uphold integrity in their actions and contribute to a transparent society.

Through this Vigilance Awareness Campaign, Islamia College successfully promoted the importance of ethical values and proactive citizenship, reinforcing its commitment to building a corruption-free society.
