GMC Anantnag organizes first-ever IAP-ALS workshop in Kashmir

Anantnag: In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing patient care and medical education, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) ALS-BLS group, hosted the first-ever IAP Acute Life Support (ALS) workshop in Kashmir.

The two-day event brought together national trainers from across India to provide pediatricians and pediatric residents with advanced life-saving skills. This is the first such workshop organized by any medical college in the Kashmir region since Independence.

The IAP-ALS workshop was led by the Department of Pediatrics at GMC Anantnag, with Dr. Vipul Gupta from GMC Chandigarh serving as the Course Director and Dr. Showkat Hussain Tali, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics at GMC Anantnag, as the Course Coordinator. Distinguished national trainers included Prof. A.K. Rawat, Dean of GMC Sagar, Madhya Pradesh; Prof. Pradeep Dabata from VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi; Prof. Shalu Gupta from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi; Dr. Suresh Kumar from PGI Chandigarh; and Dr. Pankaj Kumar from GMC Chandigarh. The workshop was conducted under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag.

The workshop saw participation from pediatricians and pediatric residents from across the Kashmir region. Special guests for the inauguration ceremony included prominent medical professionals from various institutions, such as Prof. Muzaffar Jan, HOD Pediatrics GMC Srinagar; Prof. Bashir Ahmad Charoo, HOD Pediatrics and Neonatology SKIMS Srinagar; Prof. Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Professor Pediatrics GMC Anantnag; Prof. Reyaz Ahmad Malik, HOD Pediatrics SKIMS Medical College; Dr. Suhail Ahmed Choh, HOD Pediatrics GMC Baramulla; Dr. Irshad Bhat, HOD Pediatrics GMC Handwara; and Dr. Mubashir Hassan Shah, Neonatologist at GMC Srinagar.

Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb praised the Department of Pediatrics for organizing such a high-end workshop, emphasizing the impact it would have on improving both patient care and medical education. She extended her gratitude to the Indian Academy of Pediatrics for providing expert trainers and expressed hope for continued collaboration with IAP to further strengthen medical training and healthcare delivery in the region.

The workshop marks a significant step forward in the region’s medical landscape, equipping healthcare professionals with essential life-saving skills to improve patient outcomes.
